How To Make The Best Manhattan Cocktail

A Manhattan is one the most iconic cocktails in the entire world. Harry Craddock wrote the first description of it in his book, "The Savoy Bar Book", (1930). Mix equal quantities of sweet vermouth and dry vermouth with rye whiskey. Add ice cubes. Some people add bitters and orange juice to the cocktail. Many variations of the Manhattan recipe exist, including the Old Fashioned.

Manhattan is a classic cocktail that's made with four ingredients. It's served in a chilled glass. Its origins go back to the 19th Century when it was called The Four Deuces. That is because it contained two ounces of whisky, two ounces of rye and two ounces of gin. Today, the original recipe is still popular among bartenders and drinkers alike.

Some prefer to use bourbon rather than rye. Others prefer to use brandy. Both are equally good. Make sure to use equal amounts of each ingredient when making Manhattans. Take two shots each of rye, sweet vermouth, dry vermouth, and sweet vermouth. You will need eight shots of the gin. Mix all ingredients together and leave to sit for 15 minutes. Strain the mixture, and then serve. Garnish with a maraschino cherry or a twist of lemon peel.
